A cartwheel a day
By Lucy Musgrave
In September 2021 I was sick and admitted to A&E at UCLH. The next day I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and met the most extraordinary team of nurses, doctors and consultants who saved my life and have cared for me since and made me better. I was in hospital for six months and I was so lucky to be looked after by Danny's team on GWB 2N ward, the Ambulatory Care team and all the staff in the Haematology Unit who are the most expert and brilliant people I have ever met. Before Christmas 2022 with my two best friends Liesel and Sadie, I went to Espiritu Santos island in Mexico looking for the magical Estancias Sumergidas (by the artist Cristina Iglesias for the Mexican Foundation for Environmental Education, a symbolic project to raise awareness for protecting and conserving marine ecosystems), and to celebrate and embrace life. I did 12 cartwheels to mark an extraordinary year of survival and now I am doing a cartwheel a day to try and raise money for my team's research projects, specialist education for my nurses and the ambulatory care team, and to support the extraordinary ground-breaking work of the Haematology Unit.
